----------------------------------------------------------------------- BIOINFORMATICS COLLOQUIUM School of Computational Sciences George Mason University ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Co-factors as Biological Universals Vijay Surathy, Harold Morowitz George Mason University Tuesday, March 22, 2005 4:30 pm Verizon Auditorium, Prince William Campus We have studied the chart of intermediary metabolism for reductive autotrophs in an effort to recover the earliest biochemistry from universal features of the present day metabolic chart. From data mining of metabolism we work top down to certain metabolic fundamentals that are embodied in the cofactors. From a bottom up perspective, we arrive at similar pathways from basic organic chemistry, suggesting the existence of biological universals bridging both approaches. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Refreshments are served at 4:00 pm.
