It is difficult to prevent the adenovirus infections, as these viruses may be highly contagious and prevalent in the population globally. With international travel, respiratory adenoviruses are crossing 'traditional' seasons of infection as the Northern and Southern hemispheres essentially provide a continuous "Winter."

As would be expected, some cases can be prevented by proper hygiene, that is, good hand washing skills, and by avoiding contaminated or tainted objects (and infected people).

Good hygiene and using disposable or sterile instruments and bottles of eye drops will contain the spread of adenoviral conjunctivitis in the working locations.

Chlorination of pools can also prevent some GI-based adenoviral infections.
